Balenciaga is a luxury fashion brand which was founded in Spain in the year 1919. It is currently owned by a French multinational company Kering. You might have seen a lot of celebrities wearing Balenciaga shoes, shirts, jackets which look really different from other brands. Not everyone is fond of them, but in my opinion they are a stand out!

Before understanding why Balenciaga products are so expensive, let me first tell you about the two types of markets:

1. Huge target market: In this type of market a product is created targeting a huge audience. The customer base is really big. Eventually the production cost is also low. Brands like H&M, Peter England, Adidas, Nike etc fall under this category.
2. Small target market: In this type of market a product is created targeting a small customer base. Usually its the celebrities and extremely rich. For these brands the production cost is a lot more than the brands in the first case. Balenciaga is a brand that falls under this category.

Reasons:

• High production cost: The raw materials are of top notch quality, which makes it necessary to put up a big price tag.
• Brand name: The designers have worked really hard to make their brand stand out in the market. The experience of the designers also counts. Along with the raw materials you are also paying for the skills of the designer.
• Marketing: The company spends a huge amount on marketing it’s products. Celebrities endorse their products which means there is a big amount that has been spent. Hence to compensate this amount the price bar is raised.
• Haute Couture: This is a french term which means “high” or “elegant”. Balenciaga is a designer Haute Couture which means that these are exclusive and high end products unlike other brands in the market.

In my opinion these are the main reason ” Why Balenciaga is expensive?”. My suggestion would be that, wear Belenciaga only if you can afford it. In the end of the day it’s just a “want” and not a “need” . Also, do not buy copies there are a lot of other products in the market that will fit into your budget and will still make you look good.
